September 2010
John Cleese bought one of my Hippo Tables a few years ago and it
lived happily in his house at Notting Hill, London until recently,
when his ex wife ran off with the table!
This upsetting situation was soon rectified – we made Mr
Cleese a new Hippo and he likes it better than the first. It was
carved from a large ‘cottonwood’ tree felled on the
riverbank of the Thames near Chiswick in London.
He has also asked for a Dining Table to seat eight- featuring woodland
animals – we are working on this at the moment, to date we
have a squirrel or two, a fox, a bird, some mice and a mole... In
fact Fiona’s face turned ashen when I offered to show her
my ‘mole’!
I have an exhibition planned for next Easter 2011 at the centre
for excellent makers - Kew Bridge Steam Museum, Kew London. Please
contact me by email if
you'd like to come along.
Oh, I forgot to mention the six foot Giraffe I am also carving
at the moment, I’ll tell you all about that next time.
Derek is also working on a Development of Code 6 houses on the
Isle of Wight.
